The walk
5.7 km out-and-back walk between Pontelatone and Castel di Sasso, up to Monte Friento, 292 m of total ascent: about 2 h of walking. Waymarked hiking trail, between 483 and 757 m above sea level. After the walk: wine tasting at Tralcio (3.9 km) and lunch at ‘A Luna Rossa in Bellona (6.5 km).
Waymarked hiking trail (grade E): paths and dirt roads, good walking shoes are enough.

By car
From Isernia: about 1 h (41 km as the crow flies). Most trailheads have roadside parking or a small car park in the nearest village.
By train and bus
