The walk
6.2 km out-and-back walk between Lizzano in Belvedere and Fanano, up to Rif. Duca degli Abruzzi al Lago Scaffaiolo, 370 m of total ascent: about 2 h 15 min of walking. Easy paths and dirt roads, between 1433 and 1786 m above sea level. Along the way: Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi, Lago Scaffaiolo and Monte Cupolino. After the walk: wine tasting at De Quarto Vitivinicoltori (6.6 km) and lunch at Il Nonno Cianco in Abetone Cutigliano (7.8 km).
Easy path (grade T): wide tracks and short climbs, trainers are fine in dry weather.

From Lucca: about 1 h (41 km as the crow flies). Most trailheads have roadside parking or a small car park in the nearest village.
By train and bus
